Getting Your Clutter Clearing Project Started

Do you feel like you are living your life surrounded by
clutter, mess and disorganization? Do you feel so daunted by
the thought of trying to sort out this part of your life
that you keep putting off making a start, thereby making the
problem worse?
As with anyone wishing to make a positive change in their
lives, whether it be quitting smoking, losing weight or
starting a fitness program, you must first have the right
'mindset'. Many people may not place a lot of importance on
'mindset' and may even laugh at the concept, but let me tell
you the power of the human mind is phenomenal and can indeed
make a huge difference to how we lead our lives.
Before commencing your de-clutter project you must
address the issue of why you are not organized and why you
have so much clutter in your life. It could be as simple as
being lazy or it may be more complex, perhaps requiring some
sort of professional counselling to assist you in the
process of change. Once you have identified the reasons
behind this, you will find it so much easier to make a start
and ultimately achieve what you are hoping to achieve. It
may help you to write down on a piece of paper what you wish
to achieve by getting yourself organized and pin this in a
prominent place in your home such as the refrigerator. Being
able to see your goals in written form can help your
determination, especially when you start ticking off goals
that you have accomplished.
When it comes to starting a new project or task the old
saying 'You have to walk before you can run' really applies.
What this means is that you need to set yourself small
achievable goals first. You will most probably be filled
with newly acquired energy and determination but you must
resist the temptation to jump in and tackle the biggest
problem area first. You may find that you will get started
and then feel daunted by the enormity of the task and give
up half way through often leaving a worse mess than what you
started with. So set a small achievable goal first.
I would suggest tackling a small area first such as your
bathroom cabinet, which should only take you about two hours
to get done. The bathroom cabinet can often be one of those
forgotten areas of your home as no one else sees it apart
from your family members. But if it is full of half used
bottles of shampoo, out of date medications and broken and
dried up cosmetics it is not going to serve its function
very well.
