Three Techniques to Organize Easier!

Decluttering can be much easier when you use unique and
creative techniques. The Oasis Technique, Oh, Give Me a Home
Technique and garage sales are three techniques that assist
in your process to declutter your home.
Oasis Technique
I created this technique in my own home, and then found
that one of my clients also did something like this. Clean
up one area, perhaps on a table or on a bookshelf. Then set
it up pleasingly, perhaps with plants and nice-looking
items. This becomes an oasis, something beautiful to look
at.
Then, if you wish, imagine the energy of this area
spreading to the rest of the room. Use this energy to create
a beautiful looking room. Use this practice to remind
yourself not to be judgmental about the rest of the room,
reminding yourself that you are on the path of orderliness
and that it takes time to get there fully.
"Oh, Give Me a Home"
In this technique, you focus on giving a "home" to the
items you have decided to keep. Since most clutterers have a
strong emotional attachment to their things, this lets you
put that attachment to good use! So use your caring nature
to give each selected item a nice home. Using your emotions
in this way can also help you remember where the new home is
and remember to put the item back in its new home.
For items that are moved or used often, such as keys,
wallet or purse, the mail, or comb, practice putting these
in their home. Practice with one item or type of item at a
time, and then when that becomes a habit, pick another one
to set a habit.
Garage Sales
One way that may make it easier to get rid of things is
to have a garage sale. While it is wonderful to take excess
items to a thrift store, a garage sale may assist a
clutterer to feel more favorable to letting go. It's a great
feeling to see people be happy as they find something
useful. Clutterers love to help others, and this is a direct
way to see this. Then at the end of the day, it's best to
take everything to a thrift store. For many clutterers, it
may be good to first help a friend with a sale, while
selling a few items. This can create excitement and desire
to donate more items for the next garage sale.
